{ article.image | alt }}

You’ve just got your hands on your brand new state-of-the art inflatable paddle board, your hair is the perfect length to billow in the wind behind you. Life is good.

You can take your SUP board down to your nearest coastline or glistening lake, or instead, venture further afield to test it out on foreign waters.

Because when you’ve got such a versatile board, there’s nothing stopping you seeking out the most stunning lakes and rivers on planet earth. But the big question is, where do you start?

Luckily for you, we’ve listed a number of locations which are perfect for paddle boarding and are also amongst the most beautiful places you’ll ever visit. Take your pick.

Europe

  1. Lake Leman – France

Lake Leman is located in the French Alps but is most accessible from Geneva airport.

The lake is a short drive from the airport and can be accessed from a number of stunning towns around the water. However, speaking from experience, we would recommend that you head towards Evian-les-Bains, a place which is both serene and dramatically awe-inspiring thanks to the surrounding alpine landscape and massive body of clear blue water.

The lake has a number of similarly stunning towns surrounding its shores so a paddle along the coast of Leman could easily consume an entire day or more.

  1. Lake Como – Italy

Lake Como is known to millions of Europeans of one of the most stunning bodies of water on the continent.

Towering Italian mountains surround the lake as well as ancient stone bell towers and 18th-century villas, home to some of the most glamorous people in the world.

Featured in James Bond and a huge number of Italian films, Lake Como is the perfect place to show off your new paddle board, join Italian high society and become the movie star you were born to be.

North America

  1. The Grand Canyon – Nevada

The Grand Canyon is located around four hours from Las Vegas, so if you’re interested in throwing all of your money away and then paddling on America’s most famous natural wonder to improve your mood, this is the place to come.

The vast area has a number of places which are perfect for paddle boarding, but we would suggest heading to Salt River which is surrounded by the Sonoran Desert and populated with iconic wildlife such as the American Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon (the fastest bird on the planet) and Beavers.

Using a paddle board to get up close and personal with wildlife is perfect as long as you stay quiet and keep calm.

  1. Ginnie Springs – Florida

Ginnie Springs is located on the Sante Fe River in High Springs Florida and is a place with some of the most-clear blue waters in North America.

Not only is the emerald colour of the river like something from a Disney film, it is also a warming 72-degrees, meaning you’ll be saved from any kind of cold shock should you have a slip from your paddle board.

The banks of the river are full of camping sites meaning you’ll be able to sleep beneath the stars after flowing downstream.

Asia

  1. Nusa Dua – Bali

Nusa Dua beach is a gem in the crown of Bali and a paradise which travellers come from all over the world to see.

The calm waters are perfect for paddle boarding as the nearby coral reef prevents any waves from throwing you off balance, though falling into perfectly clear blue waters is hardly a punishment.

Make sure to get yourself a pair of goggles and snorkelling gear to discover the incredible marine life while you’re at Nusa Dua as the view above the waves is just as impressive as it is below.
